Raw foodies rejoyce: the Good Food Conspiracy Co. is back at last!

As you may know, raw food artist Milijana of the Good Food Conspiracy Co. went on a little 2 week southern US holiday, which turned into a month-long stay. She tried and tried to make her way back, but the road to home (and market) was strewn with mechanical obstacles. A watchamacallit broke down on her VW, and she had to wait for parts. When that was fixed another thingy broke, and she had to wait a little bit more (the photo, by the way, shows the blown tire from the tow truck on the second breakdown). Finally, no more promises were made until she reached Canadian soil, and today (tadah!) we received the happy news that she has touched down and marched right into the kitchen. The result of all this? New delicious raw food creations!

IN SEASON: PEACHES, new potatoes, CORN, tomatoes, zucchini, OKRA, blueberries, plums, beans, BASIL, kale, beets, chard, peppers, garlic, carrots, onions, eggplant, cabbages, blackberries, grapes and sooo much more! Fall raspberries will be making a comeback soon!

Sosnicki Organics are continuing to take orders for Roma canning tomatoes! For details visit their blog.

Love it or hate it, the Taste of the Danforth is a formidable food-driven force to be reckoned with, which attracts oodles of eaters to our lovely neighbourhood. If you are planning to make a run for it, don't leave without getting your weekly farmers' market goodies first. If you are staying, mind the road closures.

Our MUSICAL GUEST this market day is (weather permitting) Dallas Sutherland!

FOR THE KIDS: things are getting a bit corny... literally! Kids can construct their own cob of corn, kernels included.

We LOVE your submissions, so please keep them coming. This week's Eating Their Words food quotes come from:

Kim Thorpe: “There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.” - Mahatma Gandhi

Kim says: “I like this quote because it is so true. Despite written in another country, at an earlier time, still holds today.”

John Iadipaolo: “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.“ - J.R.R. Tolkien

John has many good reasons for submitting this quote. To read them and the submissions of all participants so far click here.

record breaking May carrots from Healthy Choice Farm

We recon there's been plenty of rain (if a flooded Union Station is anything to go by) and will postpone the tree watering to June 9. (Put your buckets and watering cans on standby.) If you want to adopt a tree of your own, scroll down the page to find out how.

IN SEASON: maple syrup, rhubarb, young potatoes, asparagus, salad greens, micro greens, kale, chard, pea shoots, arugula, super sweet little baby turnips, beets, carrots, and much more!

SEEDLINGS There's still a lot of variety to choose from for your garden or container from Urban Harvest: herbs, flowers, heirloom veg.

RETURNING THIS JUNE 2 MARKET DAY: Haystrom Farm, The Fresh Veggies, and Potager du Kanada. Also back this market day: Manning Canning with 2 types of rhubarb preserves!

PRETE-A-MANGER: LPK's Culinary Groove is overwhelmed with the popularity of their gluten-free sweet potato doughnuts they decided to keep on going! Indian vegetarian, fish tacos, Ethiopian vegetarian, and delish pastries!

NEW PRODUCTS: olives & olive oil (Country Meadows Organics will be joining us in early June), eggs: quail, duck, goose, turkey (chicken, too), Guinea fowl, Ontario lake & farmed fish, doggy treats!

SPECIAL FEATURE: Honey Man Brian Hamlin will demonstrate how to weave hammocks on June 2 and 9, and will be taking a limited number of orders.

FOR THE KIDS: To get into the Environment Week groove, kids can make a personalized wind mobile with fun and flashy recycled/reused materials. Or get their face painted!

MUSIC: Aaron Reid on guitar, weather permitting.

this much artistic effort needs to be shared!

We had a smashing first market day all thanks to our market guests, fabulous vendors, and the great community turnout welcoming us back. We thank you all!

The free City compost provided by councillor Fletcher was gone by the time the market was over, and so were plenty of goodies brought by our vendors. Hooked Inc. ran out of tortilla shells for their fish tacos twice, and one had to be quick and determined to get a piece of Saucier Foods' goodies.

Of course, as always, there were no shows and miscommunications, so we apologize for this. We thought we had confirmed Mesey with her Ethiopian vegetarian food for our first day, but she assures us she's back this May 26. We still don't know what happened to BikeSauce, who were greatly missed.

Here's what's on the menu for our first market day:

Free Compost! Courtesy of councillor Paula Fletcher. Pick it up at the north-west corner of the Park (Logan and McConnell) by the tennis courts.
